I’ve made watercolor paints using pigments from the local soil, plants, and rocks collected from the banks of the Colorado River. I paint with them using water cupped from the Colorado. I’ve pressed the river’s plants into these watercolors to make prints in collaboration with the river, my pigments and brushstrokes sticking to its vital slimes in unexpected ways.

Co-creators of these prints include:

Southwestern bristle grass (Setaria scheelei) // Switch grass (Panicum virgatum) // Limestone // Sandstone // Soapstone // Cretaceous Seaway Fossil // Red Feldspar // Quartz // Texas Serpentine // Colorado River Water (east of Tom Miller dam) // Colorado River Water (west of Tom Miller dam) // Juniper Needles // Juniper Berries // Clays from the river banks // Mountain Laurel Seeds // Hall’s panic // Churt // Sandy Loam // Marl // Moss // Texas Madrone Bark // Carex Emoryi // Pondweed // Ceratophyllum Demersum // Elodea // Silver Bluestem // Bladderwort // Fanwort // Knotweed // Eelgrass // Tapegrass // water celery // Hydrilla // Salvinia // Silicon : Si // Silica : SiO2 // Calcite : CaCO3 //Dolomite : CaMg(CO3)2
